Dear Parishioners,

I would like to let you know the latest in relation to the plans to refurbish St. Peter’s Church.

Firstly, I would like to thank our faithful and generous parishioners for their constant financial support for our parish. Following the Renewal of the Offertory Collection Scheme earlier this year many increased their weekly contributions or asked for envelopes for the first time. A number also made arrangements to make their offerings by Standing Order and we are pleased that many signed Gift Aid Declarations. This is very encouraging, especially in the challenging financial circumstances in which most of us find ourselves. Let us remember the guiding principle of equal sacrifice with everyone giving what they can afford.

Recently, as a result of adverts in the Bulletin and in the Press, several building contractors expressed an interest in being given the opportunity to tender for the work to St. Peter’s. Those who were selected (on the recommendation of the Architect) will return their quotations by the middle of June. However, the renovation work cannot begin until the temporary church is ready for use and this will be determined when the Planning Service gives its approval.

Planning permission has been requested for the Temporary Church in Grattan Park and this is not expected to be granted before the middle of May. It would take at least six weeks after planning permission would be received for the temporary building to be ordered and erected. It could not be ready before the end of July. At this stage, subject to planning approval for the temporary church being obtained in May, it is expected that St. Peter’s will close for the renovations on Sunday 26th July. It would then take a few days for the seats and other items to be transferred to the temporary church for use during the period of renovations.

The Fund Raising Committee has had some meetings and is exploring various ways in which our parishioners can become involved in concerted efforts to raise the money for our very special Church.

We look forward to your traditional generosity and support.

Let us face the future with hope!

Monsignor Aidan Hamill, P.P.

Childrens Liturgy Helpers Required

The Children’s Liturgy Group has been running successfully for nearly 2 years. We would like to increase the number of sessions we have each month. To do this we require more help. If you are interested in helping please contact Andrea (07717 803419) or leave your name at the parish office

Children's Liturgy

Will take place at the 12.15pm Mass on the first Sunday of every month.

We now have two groups on the first Sunday of every month.

Children aged 4 – P4 are welcome to their group as usual and those in P5 – P7 are welcome to the new group which began in January 2009 and runs at the same time as the other.

New members can join any Sunday. Please see any of the leaders before or after the 12.15pm Mass to enrol. It is essential that a parent/guardian signs the form to register their child

Legion of Mary Bookstalls

A new supply of inexpensive reading and devotional material for Lent and Easter is now available from the Legion of Mary Bookstalls and from the C.T.S. racks at the back of the Church.

Radios for the Housebound

Are now available at the Parish Office - price £20.

St. Vincent De Paul Society

The Society would appreciate good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, furniture etc. These may be left at the Ozanam Centre, William Street, or you may contact
