Dear Parishioners, I would like to let you know the latest in relation to the plans to refurbish St. Peter’s Church.
Firstly, I would like to thank our faithful and generous parishioners for their constant financial support for our parish. Following the Renewal of the Offertory Collection Scheme earlier this year many increased their weekly contributions or asked for envelopes for the first time. A number also made arrangements to make their offerings by Standing Order and we are pleased that many signed Gift Aid Declarations. This is very encouraging, especially in the challenging financial circumstances in which most of us find ourselves. Let us remember the guiding principle of equal sacrifice with everyone giving what they can afford. Recently, as a result of adverts in the Bulletin and in the Press, several building contractors expressed an interest in being given the opportunity to tender for the work to St. Peter’s. Those who were selected (on the recommendation of the Architect) will return their quotations by the middle of June. However, the renovation work cannot begin until the temporary church is ready for use and this will be determined when the Planning Service gives its approval. Planning permission has been requested for the Temporary Church in Grattan Park and this is not expected to be granted before the middle of May. It would take at least six weeks after planning permission would be received for the temporary building to be ordered and erected. It could not be ready before the end of July. At this stage, subject to planning approval for the temporary church being obtained in May, it is expected that St. Peter’s will close for the renovations on Sunday 26th July. It would then take a few days for the seats and other items to be transferred to the temporary church for use during the period of renovations. The Fund Raising Committee has had some meetings and is exploring various ways in which our parishioners can become involved in concerted efforts to raise the money for our very special Church. We look forward to your traditional generosity and support. Let us face the future with hope! Monsignor Aidan Hamill, P.P. |

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our parishioners for their prayers, good wishes and generosity on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood. I am especially grateful to the young people who took part in the Children’s Liturgy at the 12.15pm Mass last Sunday, their leaders, the choir and everyone for making it a very special celebration. Monsignor Aidan Hamill. |

Today many parents worry about their child becoming involved with drugs. Many youth leaders and coaches are also concerned about young people being exposed to the risks of drugs and substance misuse. However, parents and those working with young people feel they don’t know enough about drugs to help prevent our youth from coming to harm. In response to these concerns four local GAA Clubs – Clann Eireann, Clan-na-Gael, St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s – working together, have developed a collective and unique strategy. The Clubs have organised a series of information evenings for parents and guardians, aimed at explaining the purpose and content of the strategy and how it will be implemented over the coming months. Details of the information evenings, which should last no more than one hour, are outlined below. No booking is required, simply come along to any of the information sessions. Wednesday 17th June – Clan-na-Gael Club 7.00pm Wednesday 24th June – St. Peter’s Club 7.00pm Wednesday 1st July – Clann Eireann Club 7.00pm |

St. Peter's Church Refurbishment - February 2009 Update |

ARRANGEMENTS DURING THE CLOSURE Many people have asked about arrangements for Mass and other Church Services while St. Peter’s is closed for renovations. This has not been an easy matter to decide and a number of options were considered. As the time span for the work is estimated to be about eighteen months it was thought that the arrangements should facilitate the Liturgical life of the parish with the least possible inconvenience for our people. It was also thought that the temporary arrangements would need to be large enough for most occasions, and be located in close proximity to St. Peter’s Church. Also, taking account of health and safety requirements, it has been decided to locate a temporary church in Grattan Park. This building will be similar to the one currently in use in Dungannon, where Dean Curry, Parish Priest, and the parishioners found this temporary arrangement very suitable. RENEWAL OF OFFERTORY COLLECTION SCHEME We hope every family received a copy of the Brochure for the renewal of the Offertory Collection Scheme in our parish, and that everyone had an opportunity to consider its contents. We are asking everyone to: Review their Offertory contributions and give our parish what they can afford. If you already receive parish envelopes, a box will be delivered to your home. If you don’t have a box and would like to have one, please return the tear-off section of the brochure to the Parish Office. If you would like to pay your contributions by bankers order, please let us know by returning the tear-off section. If you pay income tax and contribute to the Offertory Collection, please consider signing the Gift Aid Declaration and return it to the office. If you receive a box of envelopes and have signed a Gift Aid Declaration, you don’t need to return the tear-off slip. As the new parish envelope year will begin on 15th March please make the returns of the tear-off section before next weekend so that all the envelopes can be ready for distribution in good time. Please let us know if you have changed your address. This can be done by returning the tear-off slip
Together let us face the future with hope. Yours sincerely, Rt. Rev. Mgr. Aidan Hamill, P.P.V.G. |

Housebound parishioners who are having difficulty in tuning in should leave their name, address, phone number and the best time to be contacted, in the book at the Parish Office. In some areas the signal can be very good and in areas, sometimes quite close to the Church, the signal can be weak for various reasons. In most cases the problem can be resolved by having an aerial fitted and the radio modified. These aerials are about the size of a car aerial and are barely noticeable outside your home. Your radio will have to have an aerial socket fitted and the aerial fitted outside your home with a wire fed into your house just like your T.V. The cost of the aerial and modification to your radio is £30 for materials only, and the fitting will be free. Please remember this is voluntary work and can be as fast as the number of volunteer fitters available. Anyone considering buying a radio should in the first instance leave their details in the Parish office. A volunteer will visit you to test the signal strength. |

Chalice in the Home Programme |
|
|
|
|
During this year of Vocation families and individuals are invited to take a chalice (which has been used in St. Peter’s Church) to their home to encourage prayer, particularly prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The Chalice will be accompanied by a prayer booklet for guidance. Other suitable prayers may be used. The Chalice will be in a home for one week. Those who would like to accept this invitation are asked to complete a card which is available at the back of the Church and leave it in the box provided or into the parish office. This can be done at any time throughout the next year. When the names are given the co-ordinator will contact families or individuals to let them know when their turn will take place. The co-ordinator will arrange for delivery and the pick up of the Chalice at the change-over. Names of parishioners participating in the programme will only be known by the co-ordinator. The programme will run from this week. |

New members can join any Sunday. Please see any of the leaders before or after the 12.15pm Mass to enrol. It is essential that a parent/guardian signs the form to register their child |
